The huge, annual Krsna Rathayatra Festival happens this weekend in Venice Beach, California. What is being celebrated? What do we know about the Hare Krsna movement – beyond the melodic chanting, someone giving you a flower, George Harrison? Upon what are the tradition of compassion based and concerns for cows and other creatures. What about vegetarianism? What about dairy? Is there a growing trend to GO VEGAN in the Hare Krsna movement? These topics will be discussed by BALABHADRA, a spiritual leader and thinker in the Hare Krsna movement who is president and founder of the International Society for Cow Protection (www.iscowp.org). In recent conversations with young Krsna devotees, BALABHADRA said: “… the conscious alternative is to be a vegan. If one is buying dairy from a source where the cows will end up at the slaughterhouse and their bull calves will end up at the slaughterhouse, then the ones purchasing those dairy products are supporters of the slaughterhouse and will reap that collective karma.”Also on the next GO VEGAN WITH BOB LINDEN – guest VAIDYA PRIYANKA, ayurvedic doctor from a family of a 700 year lineage of women ayurvedic healers, talks to us from her office in Chennai India (formerly Madras), the hub of knowledge in that country. She discusses diet and lifestyle from her ayurvedic perspective, warning her patients against milk and dairy consumption. Why does she call dairy “filth”? Listen!
